Happy National Dog Day! (And Happy Pit Bull Week!)

Dog bless America, it's National Dog Day! Did you know it's also Pit Bull Week? The Huffington Post celebrates Pit Bull Week every year with lots of great articles about pitbulls and the families who love them. As one Huffpost writer says, "Pit bulls are dogs. Just dogs. Gloriously, dogs." If you're thinking, "Yeah pit bulls can be great, if they're raised right," you may want to rethink that. Consider the Vicktory dogs, the forty-nine pit bull-type ("Pit Bull" isn't technically a breed, it's any one or a mixture of several breeds with certain physical traits) dogs rescued from NFL quarterback Michael Vick's dogfighting operation, Bad Newz Kennels. Bad Newz Kennels was one of the most well-f

Meet Terri! FAV's Cat of the Week

Say Hello to Sweet Terri! Terri (Pet ID# 35771) is our adoptable Cat of the Week! Terri is a beautiful adult tabby who's very mellow and sweet. Terri would love a forever home to call her own. Don't forget, adoption fees for adult cats have been WAIVED for the rest of August! That means you have until this Saturday to go pickup a sweet new best friend for free. We want to "Clear the Cat Room," so we're aiming for 130 cat adoptions this month! So far 79 cats have been adopted...can we get 51 more adopted by the end of the day Saturday? We think we can!! If you've been looking for a feline friend, come by LRAV [4500 Kramer Street, Little Rock] between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM, Tuesday - Saturday. D

Three Little Pups with Big Hearts! This week we have a triple feature for adoptable Dog of the Week! Meet Smoochy (Pet ID# 35784), Tater Tot (Pet ID# 35826), and Polly! All three of these cream colored chihuahuas are very friendly and need good homes. Polly had four adorable puppies and they've all been adopted, so now it's her turn. She's about two years old. Tater Tot is also around two years old and he's an adorable little dog full of love. Smoochy is the youngest of the three at almost a year and a half old. Any of these three amigos would make wonderful pets. You can also download our Adoption Form and bring with you to LRAV, or e-mail the completed form to: HLunders@LittleRock.org. And

Recipe of the Month :: Sunday Morning Beggin' Cakes

How can you sleep in on a Sunday morning knowing there are two little black eyes at the foot of your bed, staring, waiting, hoping praying... Keep in mind, these weekly recipes are not only all natural, but they are perfect bites for you and the dog in your life to share (just use separate bowls!). Ingredients checklist: 3 eggs 1 1/4 cups skim milk 1 tablespoon honey 2/3 cup white flour 1/4 cup bacon bits Already sounds pretty delicious, huh? Add sifted flour and bacon bits to the mixture and stir until smooth. Drop 1/4 cup of the mixture onto a moderately hot g

Forever Home Friday!

Today we have a special Rescue Waggin edition of Forever Home Friday. Last week we received an e-mail from someone who adopted a dog in Wisconsin who was originally from the Little Rock Animal Village, a dog who had taken a ride on the PetSmart Charities' Rescue Waggin' a few weeks ago. They were curious about his backstory - where he came from, what his story was, etc. They shared with us what the dog formerly known as Clayton's life was like now, and how they almost didn't end up together! We're glad they did...it sounds like they truly were meant to find each other. From Clayton's new dad: A little over a week ago our family adopted a Shepherd puppy from the Wisconsin Humane society.
