Recipe of the Week :: Oatmeal Purebred Bread

Pure, simple, and wholesome. With ingredients this great, it "oat" to be delicious! Keep in mind, these weekly recipes are not only all natural, but they are perfect bites for you and the dog in your life to share (just use separate bowls!).

Ingredients checklist:

  • 2 packages active dry wheat

  • 1/2 cup warm water

  • 1 1/2 cups boiling water

  • 1 cup quick-cook oats

  • 1/2 cup molasses

  • 1/3 cup vegetable shortening

  • 6 cups white flour

  • 2 eggs, beaten

As you can see, the ingredients are simple, all natural, and inexpensive. This is a fabulous baked good to have around, and an easy one to get in the habit of making. for you and your furry roommates. This recipe bakes up 12 slices of haute oat heaven.

  1. Dissolve yeast in 1/2 cup warm water.

  2. Combine 1 1/2 cups boiling water, oats, molasses, and shortening in a large bowl. Cool to lukewarm and stir in half the flour (3 cups).

  3. Add eggs and stir the mixture thoroughly. Stir in yeast and add the remaining 3 cups of flour. Mix well, cover tightly, and place in the refrigerator overnight.

  4. Turn onto a well-floured surface and shape into two loaves. Place in greased loaf pans and cover with a clean towel. Leave to rise in a warm place for about 2 hours until double in size.

  5. Preheat oven to 375 degrees.

  6. Bake for 45 minutes, then allow to cool and slice. Store in a sealed container.

Warm bread, warm hearts. As you can tell, this recipe is slightly sweetened with natural ingredients to satisfy you and your dog's sweet tooth in a way that is safe for your furry counterpart.
